Saxophone Quartets
The saxophone quartet is an unique ensemble of four prominent voices
in the saxophone family: soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone. Like a traditional
string quartet, the saxophone quartet is a dynamic performing group.
Wayne Leechford has been directing student saxophone quartets for over
ten years. He draws on his own experience playing in a professional quartet.
His current group is the Raleigh
Saxophone Quartet. During his years at the North Carolina School
of the Arts, he was a member of a student sax quartet that performed
all over the state, was selected to participate in national chamber
music competitions in Pasadena and Carmel, California, and performed for President Bill Clinton at the White House.
Rehearsals are scheduled from January to May every year with a one-hour
session each week. Rehearsals are held either at Burt Music in Cary or
at Mr. Leechford's home in Raleigh. Each season culminates in a
recital, usually held in May. Performance at the recital is mandatory.
Other performance opportunities arise from time to time.
Please contact Wayne Leechford about
participation in a student saxophone quartet. Space is limited and preference
is given to current private students.
